Westfalia rock n roll backrest stuck up.

Postby vandad » 18 Aug 2013, 22:38

Hi All,
Can anyone help please? My backrest is stuck in the latched up position. The handle in the middle of the backrest won't release it. I can release it by going in the boot and pulling bits of the latching mechanism with pliers. Cheers Vandad

Ah, I've found the problem. The two internal release cables have snapped. I'll try to find some new ones.

I'm talking to myself here. I couldn't buy any replacement cables. I bought some aluminium collets, a crimping tool and some heat shrink. I repaired the old cables by replacing the worn out part with some bicycle cable from the shed and covering the crimped connection with heat shrink to stop it catching. I had to unbolt the backrest, turn it upside down, bend back the spikes holding the seat cover in place and unhook a line of wire stiffeners in the seat cover so I could get to the cables. Oh, and unbolt the latches from the ends of the backrest. Marvellous now.
